Jameson > Lacan > D & G (I think)

What is the beginning of the novel? Any of the following, arguably: book 3, book 1, prologue, epilogue, chapter 3. --> generates uncertainty, that is:

--uncertainty in chronology leads to ontological uncertainty (Lacan) -- ("What does it matter who I am?" he asked aloud. "Why should I care why I came here?")

Form of the novel (conclusion: for Lacan, negative; for D&G, positive) :: Lanark/Thaw :: state of society

--uncertainty as flow -- no anchor to the chronology, no arche/telos/etc.; continual desiring-production

--the novel shows us the death of a man through paranoia, and the death of civilization through fascism; but offers as a possibility of escape the schizophrenic form of the novel itsel

--holy fuck, this is great, this is it, the good stuff.
