LQ1206-01: Statewide Gender Identity and Expression Non-Discrimination Resolution
WHEREAS, United Council of UW Students has a commitment to supporting all members of the University of Wisconsin community, and
WHEREAS, United Council of UW Students works to expand access to higher education through improving campus climate and ending harassment for all students, and
WHEREAS, United Council of UW Students has been a leader in the nation as displayed by our victory of being the first university system to voluntarily add "gender identity and expression" to the UW System non-discrimination policy, and
WHEREAS, the state's non-discrimination statute protects people from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations, and
WHEREAS, the lives of students are inextricably linked to their surrounding campus community, and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the protections granted students by the UW System extend into their surrounding communities
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Legislative Affairs director and the LGBTQ Issues director identify at least three supportive legislators by this summer, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislative Affairs and LGBTQ Issues directors present this information by the first General Assembly of the 2007/2008 academic year and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Legislative Affairs and LGBTQ Issues directors revisit this issue and make appropriate recommendations.
